Summary

There are a number of gender differences in both how physicians are trained in the treatment of female patients and the medical treatment of male and female heart patients. According to the National Coalition for Women with Heart Disease (NCWHD), there are more than 8 million women currently living with heart disease. Each year, more women than men die of heart disease.

Research has shown that there are gender differences in the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular diseases. Some of the research on these gender differences is summarized in this article, as well as strategies for helping women use the information for optimal medical care.
