Factitious & Related Disorders CenterFactitious disorders occur when a person intentionally induces or fakes symptoms in order to elicit sympathy and attention from others. The most well-known are Munchausen syndrome and Munchausen syndrome by proxy (MSBP). In the former, people induce symptoms in themselves.
