Allergies: Could I Be Allergic to Lubricants?By:
My husband and I have used K-Y Jelly for a long time, but we recently tried the liquid formula, and I became very irritated around my vaginal opening. Could I be allergic to this formula, even though it is mainly water-based?
--- Sarah
Absolutely. It is possible to be allergic to almost anything. I suggest you refrain from intercourse until all irritation is resolved, then try the new lubricant again; if the same symptoms recur, then it is fair to assume you are allergic to that particular formulation. You should switch back to a preparation which you have used successfully in the past. If your irritation persists despite avoiding the offending substance, you will need to see your doctor to rule out infection or other causes of vaginal irritation.
